These striking bi-color green hardstone carvings portray a pair of traditional Chinese foo dogs and lions, reflecting the rich cultural heritage of China. 20th century.

 

Each of these carvings measures approximately 24cm in length and 15.5cm in height, with slight variations. These dimensions make them substantial in size, adding to their impressive presence.Moreover, these carvings are notably heavy, with each one weighing approximately 2.8kg. Together, they have a combined weight of 5.6kg. This substantial weight contributes to their overall feel of quality and presence.

Foo dogs, also known as guardian lions, are an iconic symbol in Chinese culture, often representing protection and good fortune.


The overall condition of these carvings is good, with a few notable exceptions. One of the carvings underwent repair due to damage to its tail and leg, while the other has a minor chip on one paw. The repair work was carried out professionally to restore the carving's original form and ensure its structural integrity.Aside from the repaired damage, both carvings exhibit typical signs of aging, including ground-in dirt.
