Edwardian Era

The Edwardian period, some would say that this was the romantic golden age of long summer afternoons and garden parties. This was for some a time of great prosperity and opulence in the United Kingdom, a time when more people had a lot of money and they loved to show it off by wearing the most extravagant and fashionable clothing they could find. One of the most iconic fashion trends of the Edwardian period was the "Gibson Girl" hairstyle. This look featured a large, puffed-up bun on top of the head, with long, flowing locks cascading down the sides, and it was said that the Gibson Girl could turn any man's head with a single flip of her luscious locks.

But it wasn't just the ladies who were concerned with fashion during this time. The men were also known for their dapper and debonair style, with crisp suits, top hats, and monocles being all the rage. But let's not forget about the food of the Edwardian period! This was a time when the wealthy elite loved to throw lavish dinner parties and serve the most exotic and expensive dishes they could find. Some popular menu items included caviar, foie gras, and, of course, copious amounts of champagne.

However, not everyone in Edwardian society was living the high life. The working class struggled to make ends meet and often lived in cramped and unsanitary conditions. But hey, at least they didn't have to worry about finding the perfect shade of top hat to match their monocle!

So, there you have it: a brief (and slightly tongue-in-cheek) overview of the Edwardian period. Fashionable hairstyles, dapper suits, and over-the-top dinner parties were all the rage, while the working class struggled to make a living. And I shouldn't forget to mention the two influential art movements of the day which i will cover in the blog, they are of course, Art Nouveau and Arts and Crafts, both bridging the Victorian and Edwardian era's.
